As students wepush ourselves, determined to achieve decent grades. As employees we push toperform better at work, in an attempt to prove to our bosses that we are betterthan our co-workers or that we deserve that extra compensation. At the gym we may work very hard to achievethat perfect body. For the wealthy they endeavor to finds ways to become wealthier.
But the things that motivate us does it make us happy? Motivational theories explain the”itch” or “drive” or “reason” behind ourbehaviors – voluntary and involuntary (percypsych101.wordpress.com). Motivation is drivenby emotions.
Many people may be excitedby external rewards which may spur people for short periods of time sometimes causing the focus to be on quantity (how much can be done) over quality (howgood it is being done). com). I do believe that it is fineto be motivated and psychologists believe that to be motivated emotions play arole in energizing us. If we are energized, we will be motivated.
Motivation encourages us to achieve things westrive to accomplish, however I sincerely believe that your heart and soulshould be in anything you attempt toaccomplish in order to achieve successful outcomes.Stress and how it can endanger ourlivesOur text states that stress—especiallyif it is chronic—takes a toll on our bodies and can have enormously negativehealth implications. (Pelz 2017). Stress is a part of life.
Sometimes it isessential for our being. When stress arise our coping mechanisms steps in and protectsus from harm. Good coping mechanismsagainst stressful environment and negative personal characteristics can lead toeffective learning, especially in adults.When you are faced with a stressfulsituation whether in your job or in your personal life it is very easy toagonize over the issue. You may become fearful or scared. You may become soanxious over the situation and torpedoed into full panic mode.
Some stress isgood for us but too much can result in making one unable to think straight andmay instigate inaction or poor performance. We will never liveour lives stress free and will have to find ways to deal with stressfulsituations. To help abate the negativeimpact of stress, it is important that we avoid alcohol and minimize our caffeineintake. Both are stimulants that can increase our anxiety. Instead drink lots of water. Indulge in morephysical activity. Often when we are stressed exercise is the furthest thingfrom our minds. Exercise help restore our body and mind to a calmer place.
Anotherthing that can reduce stress is to sleep more. Lack of sleep is a great cause of stress. Stressdisturbs our sleep as thoughts keep spinning in our heads, and preventing usfrom sleeping. And finally, please seek professional help or talk to someone,friends, peers, parents, significant others or clergy. I cannot reiterate howimportant it is not to resort to alcohol or drugs when stressful situations arise.

Goodcharacter entails knowing our values and living our lives values and integritybased on principles and self-reflection, and courage. Havinggood personality traits involves being loyal to our friends and family. Beingrespectful to other. One cannot gain respect if they don’t give respect.
