Right from my school days I have always questioned andchallenged text book concepts to explore and to understand the underlyingfundamental ideas. I have held a certain fascination towards the field ofEngineering and the years of study in school and college have helped inamassing the knowledge I possess of this field. The purpose of pursuing aMaster’s degree is to deepen my knowledge, channelize my thought process and toguide myself along the right path that would lead me to my goal, to beforefront in the field of Electrical engineering.Right from my childhood I had a curiosity to know howall the electrical and electronic appliances around us work. Each and every newappliance that came on the market not only shattered my preconceptions abouthow much further can technology really go in terms of innovation, but it alsostretched the limits of my imagination. In My under graduation, I learned thebasics of Electrical, Electronics and Instrumentation both theoretically andpractically. I was astonished to know that even the complex electricalarchitecture was being used in all the simple appliances that we use every day.
With my goals set on a Master’s degree, I embarkedupon an ambitious senior project in college, one that would make use of visiblelight communication protocol based on IEEE.802.15.7 and AVR Microcontrollers.This project involved PAN ID matching method to control the speed ofautomobiles to a limited range. The project was titled as Advanced Driver Assistance system. It was rated one of the bestprojects in my college during that academic year and earned S grade, which isthe top most grade.
To have been in a successful project with my effort notonly gave me satisfaction, but it also kindled in me a growing desire to keepachieving more and more which is my primary motive for continuing my studies. Ialso presented a paper at a national level technical symposium on Wireless transmission of electricity. In my opinion one can never truly learn to visualize asolution to a problem from an engineer’s perspective until he has had first-handexperience.
Industrial visits and in plant trainings gave me that and muchmore. I had a golden opportunity to undergo training at Subashri bio energies(P) Ltd; This firm makes use of organic poultry waste to produce electricity andthis idea fascinated me. Here I was introduced to the method of powerproduction by using organic wastes at a very less cost, I also learnt varioustechniques on power generation and distribution. It was at this place, where Igot to understand the importance of eco-friendly power production and powerproduction from renewable energy sources. Besides the training I have had theopportunity to visit many power producing industries such as Ennore ThermalPower Station and neyveli lignite power corporation. The visits and in planttraining greatly complemented the theoretical classes I had taken in collegeand it gave me a wider picture of power systems. This kept me eagerlyanticipating the day I could contribute to such a fascinating field.
Given anopportunity to pursue my Master’s degree at University of alberta, I believe Iwill get one step closer to my goal. The major challenge that we face today in the 21stcentury is providing energy to the increasing population and catering the energyneeds of modern industries. In India, we mostly rely on conventional methods ofpower productions from fossil fuels. This has taken a toll on our environment.
Thus there is a need for us to produce energy from renewable sources. I stronglybelieve that by incorporating eco-friendly techniques and by generating powerfrom renewable energy sources, we can cater the needs of the growing populationand the current Industrial revolution without harming our environment. Thisbelief in me and my strong emphasis on production of electricity from renewablesources made me to take the decision of doing a Master’s program in Electricalengineering with specializing in power systems. So that after my graduation, Ican work in a field that caters the needs of the society and thereby fulfillingmy career ambitions.Apart from academics, I also actively engage myself inextracurricular activities. I was an active member of the NSS (National servicescheme) and participated in many cleanliness awareness programs.
I successfullyorganized a quiz competition on latest advancements in the field of electricaland electronics in my college symposium. After my graduation, I started workingas a teacher in an international school. Here I handled both physics andmathematics for grade eleven students. The reason I choose to study Master of engineering inElectrical and computer science specializing in energy system at the Universityof Alberta is that your university will provide me the platform where I canlearn to grow in the field of Electrical engineering and provide me the calibreto match international parameters. You have one of the best laboratoryfacilities such as the unique Nano & Micro fabrication facility and RTX(Real Time Experimental laboratory, the latest equipment’s and a well-structuredcurriculum. Being under the guidance of your experienced faculty will help meto strengthen my knowledge and will help me achieve academic excellence.
Yourtraining will help me develop my skills to manage the core aspects of electricalengineering and thereby create a pathway for me to become an efficientprofessional. Moreover, University of Alberta is one of the top rankeduniversities in the world and has kept its standards high right from the timewhen it was started in 1908.I strongly believe that it is an Engineersresponsibility to make life better for everyone living on this planet. Iunderstand that I have to work hard and compete with top scholars from allaround the globe. I believe that my commitment towards everything I pursue andmy eminent academic records, makes me a prospective candidate to be admitted inyour university.
