Po-et-ry,” Literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.” This is googles definition of “Poetry” but what does this really mean? What makes poetry, poetry? Poetry is many different things it may be someone’s escape from the hardships of life, remembering loved ones, showings your true colors, or as simple as expressing your feelings in a productive and creative way. “Poetry is not a turning loose of emotions, but an escape from emotions; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality.” As said by one of the greatest poets T.S Eliot. Emotions, thoughts, and views of the world truly make poetry. What about news? Where do you hear the news from? The tv? An article? Or does your friend Sheldon have some good or bad news for you? News ranges from The California mudslides and wildfires to Kylie Jenner being pregnant to articles talking about climate change and a guy eating the largest pancakes, but what makes news, news? News is new information that we haven’t heard about. What really makes news, news is interesting, dreadful and cheerful topics. A passionate writer trying to inform the world about how 911 was an inside job or what’s the quickest way to shed those 5 pounds, is Trump a racist? With these two fairly different topics there is some strong similarities such as poetry and news are both written by people for the people. Poets and writers are seeking to get there point thoroughly across to the reader. Although, poets use riddles and wordplay they have a theme and wish to reach it such as writers. Poetry and news articles both touch on emotions and facts although poetry has a double-sided image if you see the bigger picture you will truly understand the topic. A poem written about climate change and how mother nature awakens in pain and agony and an article written about climate change and how much percentage of CO2 is in the air are both trying to tell us we are shredding this planet to pieces. The article talks about how kids don’t go outside enough and it focuses on matter and what causes this problem as well as how to fix it and approach it. As to the poems they beat around the brush and don’t confront what’s really going nor describing the problem or what causes this outbreak.
