creating a caring environment and build an ambiance of respect andcompassion nurses need to know what caring means and the effect of caring andnot caring on others.I chose nursing as my profession because Ibelieved that I have a desire to help people in need. I knew that nursing is anadmirable career and not should be considered as an occupation to get apaycheck. My sister, as a nurse practitioner, positively impacted me to pursuemy dream of becoming a nurse. Even though my sister is a nurse, I did not havedetailed information about the nature of nursing.
My understanding of nursingwas limited, and I thought implementation of practical skills was a sufficientway to provide care. I saw nursing from the scope of practical experiences suchas administering medication or IV. I thought that knowing and learning thescientific and technical side of care in university would be the most importantpart of our education. I think all these knowledges were necessary anf goodenough to encouraged me to choose nursing as a future career in order to beable to relieve people’s pain. But, after starting my program my thoughttotally changed, and the art of nursing gave me another perspective on nursing. Therefore, I realized that both science and art of nursing are required to meetpatient’s needs. Forbeing a nurse, I need to learn several determining factors.
I believe that learningto how initiate and maintain communication with patient is essential. As anurse, I have to be presentauthentically and empathically by making eye contact, using touch tocommunicate care and kindness, and listen actively and carefully in order to goto the heart of the patient’s mind. If I want to be a good nurse, I need torespect patient’s decision and dignity. As a nurse, I willtry to develop my non-judgmental skill to all people in need withoutconsidering religion, ethnic and disability. I need to enhance my capability toprovide a holistic, respectful and patient-centered care.
I will ensure that I usemy clinical judgment and critical analysis in every day working in this career. My philosophy as a nurse would be caring and supporting the patient and their familyand providing a healing environment for all them. The ability to empower the patientis crucial because it will persuade them to become more active in their owncare plan and making a right decision about their goals regarding their treatment.whenever there is a disagreement between my beliefs and my patient’s values Ineed to find an adviser to assist me through the conflict and identify alogical solution to meet my patient’s needs without ignoring my values or standards.Knowing these factors play a key role and help me achieve my goal which isbecome a good nurse.
