Laws percent since 2006(Alpers). It is said that almost

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides. For an unarmed man can be attacked with more confidence than an armed man.(Thomas Jefferson) This quote is saying that  putting more gun laws in effect will only affect the people who follow those laws because non law abiding citizens will not follow these laws if they already do not follow the ones in place. Which means the law abiding citizens will be be at more of a risk because if the criminal has a gun and the victim does not the victim is at a better risk. The Second Amendment states, a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The government and many people of society have thought about limiting the Second Amendment because they believe that it is the guns killing people when in reality it is the people behind the guns because, of guns being sold to mentally ill people, illegal gun ownership, and almost thirty one percent of American households have one or more firearms in the home. The gun related suicides have increased dramatically over the past eleven years. Gun related suicides have increased by twenty-six percent since 2006(Alpers). It is said that almost anyone who commits suicide has some form of mental illness either diagnosed or undiagnosed. In 2014 there were 21,334 gun suicides in the US, that accounts for a little more than sixty percent of all gun deaths in the US(Alpers).”Those who are determined, irrational, and insane will never respond to rational signals.”(Domenech). With that being said there are over 270 million guns in America and not all of them are in the hands of rational people, which is not safe (Schwartz). No matter if you enforce gun laws and the criminals are irrational enough they will still find ways to get firearms and commit crimes. If a person is already considered a criminal obviously they do not care if they break the law, so if you put strict laws in effect on guns or even take them away completely they will still get these lethal arms and could commit a crime against defenseless citizens. Only about three percent of guns used in crimes are legally owned by the criminal committing these crimes(Greenberg). If a criminal has a stolen firearm or some how has access or possession of a firearm illegally owned, and they commit a crime with the gun not only will they get charged for the crime they will get charged with illegal possession of a firearm which is a maximum of ten years in the US. In the past five years the US has seen a twenty-three percent increase in gang related homicides. The gang related homicide is on the rise and gangs usually consist of criminals. If these criminals have guns it is illegal because you are not allowed to own or have possession of a firearm if you have a felony charge on your criminal record. So with gang violence on the rise the number of gun crimes and deaths will go up but know that it is because of guns being illegally owned, and the government had no clue about it. In the United States there are about 270 million privately owned guns(Alpers). There were 33,000 gun related deaths(Alpers). Over 21,000 of those deaths are suicide, which is not considered a crime(Alpers). If you do the math you find that for about every 8,181 privately owned firearms there is only 1 gun related death. So just think about that because in Canada there are 8.6 million privately owned guns  which is just a small fraction of the amount that the United States has(Alpers). Theoretically, if Canada had  the same amount of guns as the US their yearly gun death total would be nearly 706 times higher than what the United States total is today. Many of the citizens say that we should ban guns to protect the children of the United States because they put too much of a risk on the table for the children. The citizens need to think about what is more important though, because if the kids family could have a gun they could protect their family and others from criminals. The past generations of their society have lived with having guns and not having restrictive gun laws for them, and most citizens felt safe without them and still feel safe today without them.I see how some people can think that taking the guns away from citizens or limiting the availability of guns to citizens would lower the rates of gun crime and the number of gun deaths but, as I stated earlier, if a criminal is determined to kill or  harm people they will find ways to get those outlawed or restricted firearms and harm defenseless, innocent victims. We see this alot today because people who are on the terrorist watch list still find ways to get firearms and other lethal means and end up committing horrible crimes that usually take many innocent lives and scar many others. Limiting our availability to firearms or taking our firearms away from us because of guns being sold to mentally ill people, illegal gun ownership, and the number of civilian owned firearms is limiting the Second Amendment of the law abiding United States citizens because they should have a fair chance to step up and defend their self and the others around them against an armed criminal. In cases of mass shootings if you took guns away from everyone but the shooter all you would have is defenseless, innocent people who are dying dozens by the minute waiting for law enforcement to get there and try to stop the shooter. While if the victims of the shooting still had their firearms they usually carry with them they could at least have a fighting chance of surviving and stopping the shooter from taking so many innocent  lives. Look at the shooting that happened at the church in Texas, President Trump stated, “If you did what you’re suggesting, there would have been no difference three days ago, and you might not have had that very brave person who happened to have a gun or a rifle in his truck go out and shoot him, and hit him and neutralize him. And I can only say this: If he didn’t have a gun, instead of having 26 dead, you would have had hundreds more dead.” If you took guns away from people in that situation many more lives would have been lost, so thankfully in America we have the right to bear arms which plays a very big role in keeping the citizens safe.
