Keeping in view of the above mentioned situation, myadvice to her is that quitting the job may avoid her of existing this situationhowever it doesn’t seem to be the best option available. Even exit from theorganization is not a great choice as there are multiple similar circumstance cameinto way throughout out life. During the Initial phase of work life one shouldfocus more on understanding the organisation, repo building and taking calculateddecision.
When we make decisions our Values are something which guide us and aperson should hold on to her / his values in case of a dilemma. Key thing tothe ethical system is responsibility for the wellbeing of other members of thatgroup whom one is associated with. · When she says that marketing is amanipulative unethical subject and she didn’t find it appropriate to link withstill she got her first job in marketing which proves that she is not followingher values while taking decision.· If she felt that the organization was notready for women, instead of moving away she should have tried to talk and carryher in a way which would have helped her in understanding the situation.· Also she has mentioned that thechances of getting job being a Jew is very low which was proved to be wronglater.· She feels that chemistry is notsuitable to her which was proved wrong by the fact that she got job because ofher chemistry background.Sushan’s attitude and value The way she jumps into conclusion without due andadequate evidence looks that she could have handled the situation in a much betterway.
One should understand that we can’t control the different circumstancewhich came in our way every day but one need to be competent enough control andrespond based on our value system. The final outcome of any situation is judgedbased on our attitude and reaction to that situation. If I were in Sushan’splace I could have taken a balance decision i.e. initially my focus should bemore on better understanding the organisation, building good repo with my seniorsand colleagues and then try to change slowly and slowly. She is having a brilliant academic record from prestigiousInstitution but tempered and complaining personality.
Her preconceived notionsand expecting others reaction as per her comfort level added conflict to herpersonality. At the end of this case, Susan is in ethical dilemma whether toleave the organization when she was confronted with a conflicting situations atthe workplace i.e. of benzene concentration which was 100 times higher as perUS standard.
