In today’s world, enormous financial activityhas caused wealth being amassed and destroyed on a massive scale in many partsof the world. This dynamic has resulted from the globalization and structuralchanges in developed and emerging markets.
The 2008 crisis in financial marketsand the global geopolitical situation have brought it with challenges, whichneed increased depth and understanding of the rapidly changing financialmarkets and global economic conditions. I believe this backdrop requires me tofurther my academic studies in the fields of corporate finance and wealthmanagement. My long-term career goal is to become asuccessful consultant in the fields of finance and management. I have had akeen interest in finance and consulting, and I hope to achieve this goal aftersome years of experience as a successful analyst. Additionally, I plan topursue the CFA and have successfully passed the CFA Level I in Dec 2016. Withinthe field of Finance, I am most interested in topics ranging from corporatefinance, security analysis, and risk management.
In particular, I find thedifferent valuation methods from discounted cash flow models (DCF), comparablevaluation, and leverage buyout valuation essential to study from both atheoretical and practical level. The aforementioned interests were developedfrom the full-time internship within a consulting firm, the CFA ChallengeCompetition at university, as well as my undergraduate courses in corporatefinance, derivatives, and investment. During my internship at Accenture, Iassisted the consulting analyst to create a “three statement financial model”for the client, in order to improve the company’s financial management. Igained practical skills from analysing the company and building the model.
Furthermore, the fast-paced, high-pressure environment I experienced also providedme with the opportunity to work on large data sets using Excel. This furtheredmy interest in pursuing a finance career. The CFA Challenge Competition Iparticipated in during my third year also invigorated my interest in finance.
Iused various financial research tools, such as Capital IQ, Bloomberg, FactSet,and Thomson Reuters, to conduct industry research and financial statementanalysis of the target company. I further developed my analytical skillsthrough applying the DCF model and comparable approach to value the company. To achieve my goals, I seek to deepen myknowledge in the related areas. The London Business School Masters inManagement program will provide me with an opportunity to deepen myunderstanding of finance and business in a more meaningful way, and in anenvironment which will be academically challenging and allow me to developfurther. The class of Masters in Management is international and welldiversified. Being surrounded by multi-national individuals will allow for anexchange of different ideas and views that would benefit all students.
Thecourses it offers, such as Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting, and GlobalEconomy, are vital for a career in finance. Also, the integrated modules it offers willprovide me with a comprehensive, broad perspective on business, and the GlobalImmersion Field Trip and Live Business Project will allow me to gain practicalunderstanding to apply my knowledge in real-world situations. Additionally, Iwill be well positioned to take advantage of its excellent reputation andstrong alumni network.
