I’m sure you’d definitely want to know the basics about them so you can make an effective purchase.Now, let’s discuss about the 10 things you have to keep in mind while purchasing an Ultrawide Monitor. 1. SIZE OF THE SCREENThe main point to consider when you’re buying an ultrawide monitor is the diagonal measure of the screen.Most ultrawide gaming monitors has a 29″ screen. But the optimal size for ultrawide monitors is 34-inch. There are some 38″ monitors and a giant 49″ display from Samsung too.When you’re shopping for an ultrawide monitor, choose the optimal screen size your budget and space allow. TN or IPS or VA?Manufacturers generally use a TN panel, IPS panel or a VA panel in their ultrawide monitors.Twisted nematic or TN, is the most common and least expensive panel. Usually, you’ll find this panel in ultrawide gaming monitors as they support very low response time (1ms GTG). But TN panel suffers from bad viewing angles and color reproduction. If you’re rooting for fast-paced gameplay experience and don’t care much about picture quality and colors, this panel would fit your setup.On the other hand, In-plane switching (IPS) panel offers higher-quality images, accurate and vibrant colors. The best ultrawide displays have IPS panel along with a normal response time ( usually 5ms GTG ).  With an IPS panel, you’ll get excellent color, best in class contrast ratio and lifelike images without sacrificing performance.The major benefit of an IPS ultrawide monitor is the wide viewing angles. REFRESH RATE OF THE DISPLAYThe refresh rate of a display refers to the number of frames it can show per second. Refresh rate is measured in Hertz (Hz), which is a unit of frequency. A monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate can display 60 images per second.Most Ultrawide monitors have a 60HZ or 75Hz panel. The other refresh rates supported by ultrawide monitors are 100Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, 160Hz and even 200Hz.You’ll need a powerful graphics card (G-sync or FreeSync compatible) if you want to run an ultrawide monitor with refresh rates above 100Hz.Now, while playing a game, Higher Refresh rate means smoother performance as the display can show more images in a second.Usually, the difference between 60Hz and 75Hz is more noticeable than it is between 75Hz and 100Hz. Most importantly, you’ll notice a huge difference in performance between a 60Hz and a 144Hz display, Since the image refreshes more than twice as fast in a 144/166Hz monitor, you’ll get a smoother and more responsive feel in fast-paced video games and other applications.But higher refresh rate monitors with bigger resolutions tend to cost more. Unless you have a powerful high-end gaming pc, it is difficult to play the latest video games with max settings in 120/144Hz or higher refresh rate.So for higher visuals and details, go for a 1440p ultrawide display with a 60 or 75Hz refresh rate. And if you prefer performance but don’t have the budget, get a 1080p display with refresh rates Up to 144Hz.The best option would be to go with a 1440p ultra-wide display with 100Hz or 120Hz refresh rate if you can afford it.5. Get an ultrawide display with a Display port 1.2 since it unlocks feature like G-Sync or Free-sync.Also, some ultrawide monitors come with built-in speakers so they have audio output port in the rear cabinet.8. Ultrawides monitors are usually on the expensive side but prices have come down recently due to consumer demand.In fact, you can get an ultrawide for the same price as a regular 16:9 widescreen monitor.
