Asthma is a type of disease that makes breathing difficult, it causes the air tubes that carries oxygen into the lungs swollen and narrow. The symptoms that are caused from asthma includes coughing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. According to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), there are 25 million people living with asthma in the United States, and it is one of the main reasons that kids miss school. Because of asthma, people tend to have a harder life style, only can access a limited amount of things they can do in life, for example not being able to do sports, or having to avoid certain areas due to weather. But besides that, curing asthma is another big factor, people use about $700-$4,000 USD just to cure themselves according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many people can’t afford medication due to the price, thats why this is an important factor that our society needs to solve.The Circulatory system includes the heart, lungs, arteries, veins, coronary, portal vessels and capillaries. But the two main systems is the Pulmonary circulation, which is a small cycle that carries blood starting from the heart, then to the lungs and back to the heart. And the Systemic circulation, which carries blood from heart to all parts of body and back. The lungs is a main factor in order for the body to function well. The lungs is part of the respiratory system, which includes the nose, throat, voice box, windpipe, and lungs. Each time you inhale air into your body, the mucous membranes of the nose and mouth warm and humidify the air. The lungs is really important, because the cells in your body needs oxygen in order to live, when we breathe in air, the oxygen is moved through your bloodstreams and carried to every part of your body, without the lungs, every cell in our body would die as it doesn’t have any oxygen.The air we breathe is made out of several gases, as mentioned before oxygen is one factor, another factor will be Carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide is the waste gas that is produced when carbon is combined with oxygen. The lungs and respiratory system allow oxygen in the air to be taken into the body, while also allowing the body to get rid of carbon dioxide in the air breathed out. It is able to filter out pollutinated air or the dirty things we breathe in.People normally breathe through the nose and mouth, then the air goes down the windpipe, then into the airways (bronchioles) of the lungs. But people with asthma breath differently, as air doesn’t move through the lungs the way normal people do. The air has a harder time passing through the airtubes, as asthma causes the airtubes to tighten and swollen and filling it with mucus, making it more narrow for the air to go through. Some aspects that triggers asthma is allergies, exercising (causes airtubes to tighten), weather change (cold weather), smoking and genes passed down by family members. The cure for asthma these days are either to eat medicine, take shots or using the inhaler, which isn’t really efficient as the medicine only lasts for a certain amount of time, and can’t really maintain the structure of the relaxed airtubes for long. Therefore, scientists have found more advanced ways to cure asthma. As people know, most people with asthma uses the inhalers when they feel uncomfortable breathing, but those inhalers only lasts for a short period of time. Scientists have made something called a “smart inhaler”. This inhaler tracks potential triggers, peak flow, and symptoms, as well as sending notifications for upcoming or missed doses. When using the device for the first time, it saves your data and would alert you in any situation. After the “smart inhaler’ was created, the team of MIT developed the inhaler even more, they added a cumbersome plastic piece that attached to an inhaler and monitored peak flow, lung function, canister capacity, and dosage. This inhaler’s dose is also much stronger, it allows your airtubes to relax much faster and can help clear majority of the mucus that is stuck in your airtubes.The benefits of the “smart inhaler” is that it is much more reliable for people with asthma, it prevents people from worrying about the medicine lasting for a short amount of time and when people have to take the dose. Compared to taking shots and eating medicine, this inhaler cures you much faster, as medicine and shots takes a longer time to let the effect kick in, therefore, you might stop breathing and not being able to cure yourself fast enough as asthma is something you have to cure immediately. It also saves the environment as you can use it for a long period of time, not needing to charge it often.Even though the “smart inhaler” is a productive invention, there are some limitations to it. As this product is created using many advanced materials, the price of this inhaler is not cheap, therefore not many people can afford the product. Another limitation for this product is that since the only way to get the dose into your body is by using your mouth and breathing it in, sometimes if there is flem stuck within your throat, breathing in the dose in does not work as the flem blocks it from going to your lungs.But overall, I believe that the “smart inhaler” is a great solution to solving the problem, people with asthma should use this product. Even though there are some limitations that makes the inhaler not as productive, but the dose kicks in really fast, so it can save many people’s lives by it’s fast healing process. Also being able to expand the ways of how people use technology into saving peoples lives. This creates an efficient yet healthy lifestyle for people with asthma all over the world.
