PROPOSED TOPIC OF DISSERTATION: STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY EVALUATIONAND OPTIMIZATION OF PRESSURE VESSEL FOR SOUR SERVICE USING DESIGN BY ANALYSISMETHODOLOGY BROADACADEMIC AREA OF WORK: PRODUCT DESIGN BACKGROUND: Pressure Vessel as a product isrequired for containment or holding liquids and gases at a pressuresubstantially different from the normal atmospheric conditions. Due to worldrequirements of oil and gas, a large number of petrochemical, chemical and manyallied industries utilizes pressure vessel in sour service. Thus sour serviceis an environment containing Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) which poses substantialthreat to human health and safety. Thus the pressure vessel utilized in thissour service need to evaluated for structural integrity. Another major factoris scales of economics which requires an optimized design in-line withintegrity and safety requirements and thus this dissertation work will apprehendboth using design by analysis methodology. Design by analysis utilizes methodlike finite element analysis to design the pressure vessel rather than thetraditional design by formula methodology employed in oil and gas sector fromold times. OBJECTIVE: The work aims to achievestructural integrity evaluation and also design product for optimization to achieveeconomy in terms of cost without affecting product performance and safety. The projectwork shall standardize method/techniques for future products design thus bringdown the design lead time for successive product design.
SCOPE OF WORK: The work scope shall to studythe oil and gas industry practice, standards to design the high pressure vesselto be employed for sour service for petroleum, petrochemical, chemical and alliedindustry. Then structural integrity assessments using design by analysisconcept of Finite Element Techniques to design the product and also work onoptimization area where scale of economy can be maintained without affecting integrityor safety can be achieved.
